In memory of Zulma (Poem by Tristan Corbière, music by Jean-Pierre Suc) |

(bis) |
She was rich in her twenty years. I was young with my twenty francs. And we threw in our lot together, Staked on a losing hand on a Treacherous Spring night… The moon made a hole in it, Round as a five-franc coin, Through which our fortune slipped away: Twenty years! Twenty francs! And then the moon… (bis) Cold cash alas! The twenty years! Paid out alas! The twenty francs! From one moon's hole to the next, And from one common pot to another, It was much the same story each time! I found her - dome with her twenty years, Done with Spring, done with twenty francs, Done with holes and done with the moon And yet - still a virgin and still twenty And… colonel in the Commune ! Then came: soliciting passers-by, For twenty cents, no longer twenty francs… Then came: the common grave, A free night with no moon hole. (bis) |
